Degree Name: B. Arch.

Duration: 5 Years

Intake: 40

This course is designed and detailed as per the norms of the Council of Architecture, D.T.E. Mumbai, A.I.C.T.E. Delhi and is affiliated to the Shivaji University. There is a sanctioned intake of 40 students.

JJMCOA follows the admission process prescribed by D.T.E. for admission to B. Arch at the First year level along with the rules laid down by the Council of Architecture. Details of the admission process can be found on the D.T.E. website.

In the course of five years, students are trained in various subjects including Architectural Design, Building Technology and Materials, Theory of Structures, Research in Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Design, Project Management, etc. The course is designed so as to afford explorations and experimentation in the teaching and learning processes.

Faculty members teaching at the undergraduate level are trained to handle the complexities of teaching and dealing with the young aspiring students who enter the field with little knowledge about the same. At B. Arch level, students are encouraged to develop analytical thinking, reasoning, and creating a style of their own through travel and on-site explorations in addition to classroom teaching.

Becoming an Architect presents an opportunity to create a healthy, aesthetically pleasing and well planned living and working environment for the people and society. It synthesizes science and art to mould the built environment functionally precise, climatically responsive, energy conscious and aesthetically appealing. It is one of the most satisfying professions that students can opt for!

Eligibility criteria

Only candidates who have the following credentials shall be eligible for admission to B.Arch. Course.
i. Qualified through the recognized aptitude test in Architecture (NATA or equivalent) in 2020
ii. Have gone through any of the following curriculum with marks as prescribed below:
(a) Secured at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and also at
least 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination;
(b) Or passed 10+3 diploma examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 50%
marks in aggregate.
Candidates may note that no direct lateral admission is allowed at any other year/stage of B.Arch.
course based on any qualification.

Curriculum

FIRST YEAR

The First year curriculum includes studios for Architectural Design, Building Construction and materials, drawing and communication and practical courses for Model Workshop. The theoretical courses are History of Human settlements, Theory of Structures, History of Art and Climatology and Environmental Studies.

 

SECOND YEAR

The Second year curriculum includes studios for Architectural Design, Building Construction and materials, drawing and communication in continuation with first year. The theoretical courses covered are Theory of Structures, Building services and History of Architecture.

 

THIRD YEAR

The Third year, a practical course in Advanced Computer Application is added to the curriculum, along with the studios for Architectural Design, Building Construction and materials. The Theoretical courses in the third year include Theory of Structures, Building services, History and Theory of Architecture along with Quantities, Specification, Estimation and Contract Management.

FOURTH YEAR

The Fourth year curriculum includes research work in the form of an individual dissertation. The design studio involves group housing or Urban Design and culminates the last semester in the form of an individual Design Thesis. Parallel to the Design, the final year students take a building construction studio and theoretical courses including Professional Practice and Contract Management, Town Planning and Theory of Structures.

 
 

FIFTH YEAR

The Fifth year comprises of Practical Training during which students undertake apprenticeship with a registered architect in any organization which provides services related to habitat design and construction. The work includes assistance in design, preparation of construction drawings and documents, visits to construction works and attendance of meetings with clients/consultants.
